Just like sponges, Carpets soak up dirt, grime, and liquids when you spill on it. These may make your carpet smelly or even dirty around the house. Treat your carpet like your clothes and perform regular cleaning to avoid deterioration of appearances

Carpet manufacturers usually provided recommended cleaning procedures but here are some tips will help you keep your new carpet looking its best:

1. Vacuum regularly – at least once a week. This will help remove dirt and debris before it has a chance to settle into the fibers. Vacuuming your carpets at a higher frequency will not only keep the fibers in the carpet clean and intact, it’ll also stop any dirt or debris from breaking down and allowing mold, bacteria, and other allergens to grow. This is especially important if you have family members who suffer from allergies or asthma.
2. Avoid walking on the carpet with shoes. This will help prevent dirt and grime from being tracked in from the outside. As much as possible leave your shoes and slippers outside the house. This way, you can be sure that your carpet will get less dirty.
3. Spot clean spills immediately. Use a mild detergent and lukewarm water to treat any spots or stains. Blot the area dry with a clean towel. Remember to choose the right cleaning solution accordingly. For example, protein-based stains such as blood or vomit can be treated with an enzyme-based cleaner. Oil-based stains like makeup or grease can be removed with a solvent-based cleaner. And tannin stains from coffee, tea, or wine can be lightened with a weak acid solution. When in doubt, always test your chosen cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the carpet first. This will help you avoid causing any additional damage.
4. Avoid using harsh cleaning products. These can damage the fibers and lead to premature deterioration.  Instead, opt for a milder detergent or carpet shampoo. You can also use a tested carpet cleaner or a vacuum. If you spill something on the carpet, blotting is best rather than rubbing the stain.
5. Lastly, have your carpet professionally cleaned every 12-18 months. This will help remove any deep-seated dirt and grime that regular vacuuming may not reach.

Vacuum your new carpet regularly at least two or three times a week. Invest in a large, strong doormat that will reduce dirt from outside being spread around the house. Leave shoes at the door. Removing shoes stops dirt spreading and decreases wear on carpet fibres.
